WAIW | Until It’s Gone

Over the last four days, I haven’t had access to some things that many of you would consider basic amenities. Since Sunday morning, I had been without running water (it was fixed an hour or so ago), and on Monday night a storm knocked out the power until the next morning. Luckily, I’ve dealt with such things before, especially during my time housesitting in Thailand. Plus, I kind of expected it given the remoteness of this specific sit.

On top of being familiar with such situations, I’m also accustomed to the knowledge that it will be fixed at some point, and I’ll go back to having access to things like running water and electricity. For today’s Where Am I Wednesday episode, I thought I would take some time to talk about the fact that many people in the world don’t have the luxury of simply waiting for such a problem to be fixed. For many people, the problem has been a long-term thing with no real solution in sight.

For me, finding that solution is one of the many things we must do as vegans before we can simply tell someone to “go vegan”.
